Part 1 of an oral history recorded for the Bronx Latino History Project with Elba Cabrera, trailblazing patron of Puerto Rican and Latino art and culture and sister of civil rights activist Dr. Evelina Antonetty. In this part of her oral history, Elba speaks about growing up in Puerto Rico, El Barrio, and The Bronx throughout the 1930s and 1940s. She also talks about the beginning of her career in various union jobs in the 1950s as well as a pivotal event in her personal life that happened at the world-famous Palladium in Manhattan.
